I Wonder

Rain pours
As it
Clouds the cold, grey sky as
I slowly make my way to
School, that keeps
Me hostage for a day’s time.

I am different from the people that I am
Surrounded by,

Not sure if I am an
Outsider,
Trespassing in

A promised land where I do not belong. As they mock my
Curious face, they call me
Chink, they say I
Eat dogs, they jeer and laugh and
Pinch their eyes shut. But I’m not squinting. I look
Toward the window, staring at my reflection, wondering if I
Am really that different from the rest of them, wondering if I even
Belong here, wondering if I should
Leave before I infect the others, wondering if I will ever be
Equal in their Eyes.
