Our team is dedicated to bringing awareness to Asian American issues through our writing and art
Since its launch in October 2020, Hear Our Voices has published over 100 articles about contemporary and historical issues like Asian American representation in Hollywood, the “Yellow Peril,” and the bamboo ceiling. The magazine has reached over 15,000 readers from across the world, and has garnered recognition from Benny Luo, Cecilia Chung, Franklin Odo, and more.
Meet The Team
Kyler Zhou
Founder/President
Kyler Zhou is the founder and executive director of Hear Our Voices Magazine. As executive director, Zhou oversees the magazine’s operations and its vision. Zhou has written op-eds and articles in newspapers like the Star-Ledger, Princeton Packet, and the Hopewell Valley News regarding issues related to race and education.
Eric Wu
Executive Director/Columnist
Eric Wu is in the Class of 2024 at Phillips Exeter Academy. He loves to play chess and rap, and he has a background in creating and contributing to organizations that spread education. At HOV, Eric’s role is to be a figurehead, manager, and strategist.
Hannah Lui
Editor-in-Chief
Hannah Lui is the Editor-in-Chief of Hear Our Voices Magazine. She is a classical musician, activist, and writer from Tucson, AZ. Hannah has soloed with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and has been featured on CBS News for her work in her community.
Nina Gruteser
Artistic Director
Nina Gruteser is the Artistic Director for Hear Our Voices Magazine. As the Artistic Director, she manages the art team and creates cover art for the articles. She is a senior in highschool at Princeton Day School.
Ankita Ahlawat
Chief Marketing Officer
Ankita Ahlawat is a high schooler in New Jersey. She has extensive marketing and entrepreneurship experience, having worked with local businesses in her area. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, filmmaking, and graphic design.
Nick Nyein
PR Specialist
Nick Nyein is a political organizer based in Los Angeles, California. Aside from HOV, Nick organizes with Voters of Tomorrow as California’s state lead. Beyond organizing, Nick bases his personality around his Google Calendar obsession, his growing collection of grunge clothing, and the copious amounts of fan fiction he reads.

Shekhar Shah
Director of Technological Operations
Shekhar Shah is the Director of Technological Operations at Hear Our Voices Magazine. He is responsible for website design and security. As a rising senior, he works as a Data Analyst for Phenom Media and as a JavaScript Tutor at CodeNinjas.
Abrar Khan
Columnist
Abrar Khan is a columnist for Hear Our Voices Magazine from Cedar Grove, NJ. They are a Scholastic Art and Writing Awards national gold medalist, a DITF specialist at Dear Asian Youth, and the president of their school’s writing club.
Renee Pujara
Columnist
Renee Pujara is a columnist for Hear Our Voices Magazine. She is passionate about journalism and politics. In her free time, she can be found reading, writing and baking.
Lily Ahluwalia
Columnist
Lily Ahluwalia is a columnist for Hear Our Voices Magazine. She is a high schooler in Minnesota and writes for her school newspaper. Lily’s opinion piece, “Why We Need Affinity Groups” was published in the Star Tribune, and she was awarded an honorable mention in journalism from the Scholastic Art and Writing awards.

Katherine Young is a columnist for Hear Our Voices Magazine from Princeton, NJ. She is a ballet dancer and is passionate about social justice and Asian American issues.
Rhiju Chakraborty
Columnist
Rhiju Chakraborty is a columnist for Hear Our Voices Magazine. Rhiju moved to the United States at a young age, and fell in love with how books allowed them to escape the mundaneness of reality. When they’re not busy running for cross country or working on their novel, they can be found most of the time with their nose up a book.

Kim Ma is a columnist for Hear Our Voices Magazine based in New Jersey! As a Chinese American student, writing has always been a large part of her life, and she’s glad to bring her skills to advocate for a cause she is passionate about.

Allison Pham is a columnist for Hear Our Voices Magazine. She is primarily interested in economic, humanities, and social justice. During her free time, she enjoys reading, writing, and listening to music.
